When it comes to running businesses, there are a lot of documents and paperwork that companies have to make sure they have ready, to protect themselves from getting in trouble with the law. Most of the registrations they handle are from the company to make sure they are following the rules put in place so that they don’t mistreat their employees. There are certain benefits that employees should be allowed and these have to be in place, such as receiving salaries on time, working the correct number of hours and getting the right amount of leave, which are a few of the basics.
Furthermore, if companies are working with food or other products that people consume at some point, there are an additional set of rules that they have to follow to make sure that the people consuming their food are protected. What are the rules relating to working on a shop licence?
When a private or Government-run company is working in the public domain, they have to register with the authorities, so the work they are handling is known. The process of registration is not just the filling out of forms, but different rules depend on the type of work that the company is working on and the business they are handling. All companies have to apply for a shops licence which they can receive under the Shops and Establishments Act.
The rules relating to business licences and the type of licences vary depending on the location where the company or business is running, with differing fees when registering as well. Companies running in rural India might have to pay significantly lower fees as compared to those running in urban India, cities, and metros. Simply put, a company’s business activity, type of company registration, and location determine the licenses needed to operate lawfully. Other factors include the number of employees and the industry that the company is working within.
To make the process smoother, the Government created an eGovernance platform where business owners can get information about business licences. They can find the specific licence for their company, and the other requirements, and what they have to apply for and even download the shop licence application forms. For people who prefer working online, they can fill the information online and upload the supporting documents relating to their business and have everything reviewed at their end. They have to collect the certificate and have it displayed at their company office or their business premises.
People who prefer getting through the process in person can download the forms and a list of the supporting documents and submit it at the office in person. They would have to come back on another da to collect the certificate.
What are the rules relating to an FSSAI registration?
When it comes to the FSSAI registration, there are multiple factors taken into consideration, including the annual turnover of the company, how far they have expanded and whether they have branches in other states or just one, and the type of work that they are planning on doing.
The rules relating to the FSSAI are slightly different. They do not concern all businesses, only the ones working in the lines of food production at any of stage of the process from procuring raw materials to selling the finished meal, including transportation of food supplies. However, the eGovernance platforms added all the information about the process online, allowing business owners to understand the requirements and get through them. The FSSAI is open to businesses running their premises, and they have about a month wherein they have to complete their registrations. If they do not, they could face penalties, or they could shut them down.
Furthermore, there are random inspections to make sure that the company is following the rules. Additionally, companies have to change their registrations if they end up exceeding the requirements, initially mentioned, or if there are any changes between the information mentioned on the forms and the actual business.
